Interesting Week

This has been an interesting week. On Monday I had two courses meet that will continue throughout this semester. These are two of my favorite courses because they cover new educational technology and technology issues. I am looking forward to these courses and the dialogue that I hop will follow.

On Tuesday morning I had eye surgery. I had eye surgery last November, on both eyes, to take out my natural lenses (which had cataracts) and replace them with a multi-focal lense. The multi-focal lenses did not seem to work for me, as they do for 95% of the population, so I went in Tuesday to start the replacement. We replaced the lens on the right eye. The surgery went well, a little longer than the first surgeries, but no complications. However, unlike the first surgeries, the doctor had to use stitches on this one, which feels like having an eyelash in your eye constantly. The recovery time is a little longer on these surgeries also. It was not until Friday that I felt that I could see well enough ( my right eye is still blurry) without holding my hand over my right eye, to use the computer for more than 15 minutes at a time. But, every day it is getting better.

It was surprising to me, also, how the surgery affected my overall fitness. I did not have the stamina over the last couple of days that I normally have. But those afternoon naps, and the ability to leave work early, sure did feel fine.

I am now playing catch-up with my courses, and it is only the first week. I hate being behind in classwork, so I hope to have everything up-to-speed before the class meetings on Monday, and online on Monday.

New Semester

Well, it is the start of the Spring 2012 semester. I am looking forward to this semester quite a bit. First off, I am teaching two of my favorite courses, EDT 615 and EDT 660. Both of these are challenging, but very rewarding to teach. Additionally, this will be my last semester as a full time faculty member here at the University. I will be retiring in June and then moving to San Antonio to be with our sons, their wives, and the granddaughters.

I am trying out a couple of new things in each of my courses this semester. I will let you know how it all works.
